Overview
For the launch of the Meta Quest 3 we turned the Sphere into a larger than life spectacle. Having people experience what it feels like to play Ghostbusters and Stranger Things inside the Meta Quest 3, without ever having to try it on.
Ghostbusters, Stranger Things, and Sony VR, all liked the work so much they posted it on their social channels. It got over 16 million views and half a million reactions (likes, comments, shares).
The Problem
Designing and animating on a sphere presents a number of challenges. Given the size and 360 degree nature of the canvas, it's important to efficiently and accurately visualize the content from all viewing angles.
The Solution
To improve efficiency and empower our artists, our partner Buck created Renderball, a tool designed for quick previewing of imagery and video on the Sphere. This lightweight experience enables designers, 2D/3D artists, art directors, creative directors, and producers to easily preview the work from all perspectives without needing additional software installed on their computers.
Tool Features
* Easily drop image sequences and videos (mp4, mov, jpg, png, exr)
* Set camera to predefined camera angles based on the most popular social media drone postings
* Change the time of day
* Customize content playback (speed, rotation)
* Exporting stills & video
* NDI (network device interface) connectivity for direct integration with Photoshop, Nuke, After Effects, and more
